Don't know if you noticed or not but there's music in the air when you walk through the youth area. We have just installed a music system throughout the youth halls and Cores.  Every time you walk through the halls you'll now hear great Christian music playing above you.  Most Sunday's you'll see in the Netma an "artist of the week" and that's the music you'll hear.  It's our prayer that this will not only enhance our experience at church but also will introduce you to some great artists.

I'm a firm believer in the power of music. Of course, God created music and, as it is no surprise to us, Satan has perverted music.  I don't advocate that a Christian must only listen to Christian music or they're sinning (even though that's about all I listen to personally) but I do feel you should be wise in your selection of music.

Let me give you a quick test to run your music through as you evaluate whether or not it is healthy for you as a believer to listen to. I call it the "3 'M's" of evaluating your music, in fact, you can use it for all of your entertainment (movie's, TV show's, video games, magazines, etc.).

Simply evlauate the:  MESSAGE, the MESSENGER and then, the MEDIUM.  In light of the Spirit that lives within you and Word that guides you, what is the MESSAGE the song communicates?  Is it wholesome or is it degrading.  Is it holy or perverted.  Is it healthy or filthy.  You get the idea.  Then evaluate the MESSENGER.  What do they stand for? What is their lifestyle? Do they hate God, do they advocate the things that breaks the heart of God, does their music draw you closer to God or turn you away from God?  Finally, there's the MEDIUM.  This is the one that is most hard to evaluate because so much of this one involves a persons taste.  For instance, I don't like rap and, sorry, I don't like country. Does that make the music bad, no.  That medium is just not my taste.  I like contemporary Christian, I like jazz, I like, well, again, you get the picture.

Let me give you a great Scripture to consider when you choose your music/entertainment: Colossians 2:8, "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ".

Back to the music on the youth floor.  If you have a favorite artist you would like for us to feature, just let me know and we'll try and work them in.  Peace!
